Exceptional Children's Administrator is Recognized as Employee of the Month
Raven Walker

Greensboro, N.C. – Each and every child deserves to be able to freely access their learning materials without barriers. For some of our students, that means utilizing assistive technology to relay information and instructional material. At GCS, we have a steering team of employees working to make sure that our digital content is widely accessible to all.

One of those team members is Jennifer Tate, an administrator in the Exceptional Children’s division. With extensive experience in assistive technology, Tate is able to bring creative solutions to life for our scholars and the teachers supporting them.

“Jennifer Tate demonstrates excellence through her unwavering commitment to making learning accessible for every student,” writes Rebecca Kaye, senior director of policy and strategic projects. “As GCS’s assistive technology lead, she brings deep expertise in accessibility and Universal Design for Learning, then translates that knowledge into practical support for teachers. Jennifer helps staff make instructional materials accessible so students can fully use their assistive devices and participate meaningfully in learning.

"She is resourceful, collaborative, and generous with her expertise. As a member of the Accessibility Steering Team, Jennifer has helped expand this learning beyond the classroom and build the capacity of staff across GCS. Her leadership and five-star customer service strengthen teaching, increase student access, and help our district live its core values. Jennifer’s work reflects exceptional skill, teamwork, and a genuine belief that every student deserves the tools and opportunities they needed to thrive.”

Tate received a $100 gift card courtesy of the Greensboro Jaycees. During the month of September, her photo will be displayed at the district’s central offices and in the Greensboro Jaycees office.
